I was thrilled to visit this Swiss Air Force Museum, located on the outskirts of Zurich, on a recent trip. I always appreciate museums with upper levels overlooking the collection as it provides different camera angles. Delta wing planforms are always photogenic and this Mirage did not disappoint. The “R” denotes this as a reconnaissance variant, the “S” marks this as a Swiss-built aircraft. Operational in 1965, this type was retired in 1999. First flown in 1956, the Mirage III was the first Western European combat aircraft to exceed Mach 2 in horizontal flight. Nikon D500 w/Tokina 10-17mm, processed with Aperture.
