Daniela Kuri – “Sway”

I was excited to find out that, Daniela Kuri was going to be releasing her first studio album called “Sway”.  This 23 year old is able to turn back the time in music to the late 50s to early 70s era of music.  When I was listening to this album I thought the song were remastered, but I found out that she was able to remake all of the songs or make new ones that sound like this era of music.  The ones that were remade she was able to make them sound just as good if not better then the original one.

The album starts off with a song called “This Masquerade”.  I love how right away the tempo is right there to get up and do some dancing.  The piano is the main instrument throughout the whole song, and was put in just perfectly.  When you listen to the song you will notice that the piano goes from sounding very up front to hiding behind everything. I think was great thing for them to do, and this also helps keep my interest though out the song as well.  Now Daniela’s vocals were also spot on.  This was a great song to start off the album with.  This song is also able to show the listener what they are in for throughout the whole album.

The track the follows this song is the title track for the album called “Sway”.  Now this is a remake to a very famous song that was done in 1953.  I love how they did this song to sound like the original, but just an updated the song here and there for her own personal touch.  She also did another great job on her vocals for this song.  With everything sounding top notch this makes it a must have song.

The next song that needs to be mentioned is “Killing Me Softly”.  Now this song has been done numerous times and each time it had it’s own different twist to it.  I do have to say the version that she did on this album is my new favorite.  This version is a much more slowed down and much more jazzier then the past versions that I have heard.  The vocals are spot on again along with instruments.  This song is yet another one that you need to download for your collection.

Now if you are looking for an album that has that 50s era to 70s era sound this is the one for you.  The vocals and instruments to every song were spot on.  The only downfall I have to this album is that by the third song I was getting bored due to the fact that every song seemed to almost sound the same.  When an album has the same sound throughout the whole thing they can lose the listener due to boredom.  With taking in the fact that every song was done well I’m going to give this album 3/5.  It’s getting a blah score just because it almost lost me.  But there are a few songs on here like “Killing Me Softly”, “Sway” and “This Masquerade” that everyone needs to download.
