Dal fry(No Onion No Garlic Recipe)

After two absolutely decadent desserts now its time to take some healthy food :). Here I have an extremely comforting soul satisfying stew for you all.Dal fry is a famous north Indian gravy made with mashed toor dal and few other ingredients.Usually onion and garlic are used in this recipe but here I am blogging about a no onion-garlic preparation.Generous use of ginger and coriander powder makes this dish an extremely flavorful one,perfect with rotis or serve with steamed rice,a dollop of ghee and spicy potato fry.Sheer bliss :)

Star ingredients:Toor dal
Time:30 minutes
Serves:4

Ingredients:
11/4 cup toor dal
2 tomatoes chopped fine
1"ginger scrapped
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 green chillies
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
Juice of half lemon
Salt
Oil to temper
Method:
1.Cook toor dal until mushy.Mash the cooked dal well till smooth.
2.In a thick pan add 2 teaspoons oil and temper with mustard,cumin and asafoetida.Add ginger,green chillies and saute well.
3.Add the chopped tomatoes and saute till well cooked.
4.Add the mashed dal and 2 cups of water.Add salt and let it boil for 10 minutes.
5.Add coriander powder,turmeric powder and mix well,cook for 5 more minutes
6.Remove from flame once it is thick and of uniform consistency,add lemon juice and mix well.Serve hot.
Notes:
1.You can use a combination of moong and toor dal in this recipe
2.Instead of asafoetida you can add 2 cloves and 1 bay leaf in seasoning
