Cyberbully Mom Club – How Do You Tell a Girl You Really Like Her Eyes? SoundCloud

Sad bedroom pop is a genre often attempted but seldom articulated with the candid delicacy like that of Philadelphia’s Cyberbully Mom Club. There is a distinctness to the forlorn melodies and voice of singer and principal songwriter, Shari Heck. A true member of the DIY scene, her SoundCloud and Bandcamp pages are something of a musical diary, containing her thoughts and stories in gentle acoustic tunes expressed as honestly as they came to her. While seeing the band perform live at the tiny but wonderful Walla Fest, “How Do You Tell a Girl You Really Like Her Eyes?” resonated with sweet lingering quality that elevated it above the rest. Suited for the post breakup scene of a romantic comedy or staring out a window on a rainy afternoon, Heck’s voice sways over a melancholy chord progression plucked with an increasing earnestness. It’s the echoey repetition of the “oh’s” and “I can change” that leave the tune swirling around your brain.
