Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) leader former Sate Minister Jeevan Thondaman said that CWC’s MPs will be independent in Parliament in future since the government has failed to address the issues relating to estate workers. He was addressing the media at the Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure State Ministry in Colombo yesterday.

He said that the government failed to take steps to pay the much anticipated Rs.1,000 per day wage for estate workers as promised.

“During a recent discussion with the President, the CWC raised all these issue including the issue of Rs 1,000 wage and sought his consent to rectify these issues,” he said. According to him the President has informed the CWC representation that the government would work on rectifying those issues,

However expressing the agitation to the government the CWC two Parliamentarians including Thondaman will function independent in parliament in future. Besides, Thondaman resigned from his Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure State Ministry portfolio a few days ago.

He said that the government should settle the prevailing burning issues of the people promptly. But it cannot be seen that that government is taking such a positive workout to ease these burdens.
