CW Now Equals Sunday Programming

Sunday, the day we rest on, the night we try to forget that the new work week is looming around the corner, is now going to get a little more exciting.

The CW announced Wednesday, February 14, that they are expanding their primetime lineup to Sunday nights. That means The CW will offer up 12 hours of primetime content instead of just 10.

Beginning Fall 2018, The CW will allow more room for not only shows that they are known for, but new ones. Reboots of Roswell and Charmed are in the works by the network that has brought us The Vampire Diaries, the Arrowverse and Riverdale. In total, they have nine pilots that they could use to fill up their new space, as well as shows that are up for renewal (i.e. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin).

The CW used to outsource its weekend programming, but over the last few years, it has been in expansion mode under The CW President Mark Pedowitz. In 2011, he took over the position and began to revamp the network. Over the last seven years that has allowed for more than 80 hours of original scripted programming. That’s great news for its viewers who range in age from 18-49 on TV, and the growing number of viewers who watch via digital streaming.

If The CW follows the same standard as most networks, expect to see an established show to be the headline and a newer show to follow in its new two-hour time slot, probably one of its piloted programs. Whatever they give us, CW fans will be there to check it out.
