The case the team works on this episode is number 2010/58821.
Tim Guinee, who plays Nathan Purdue, also appears in the CSI episode "Double Cross", in the CSI: Miami one "Sex & Taxes" and in the CSI:NY one "Fare Game".
Michelle Page, who plays Audrey Noonan, also appears in the CSI: Miami episode "Felony Night".
The episode title translates as 'Prancing Horse' and alludes to the famous symbol of the Italian Ferrari cars depicting a black prancing stallion on a yellow shield.

Review: CSI:NY was barely renewed after last season, but it seems like the producers want to kill it altogether instead of trying to save it. Not only is Sela Ward's character annoyingly flirty and poorly played, now we've got Danny blowing off his family to hang out with one of the officers under his command. If this show screws with one of TV's long lasting couples and it pisses me off.

Nevertheless, I liked this episode for two main reasons: Ferraris (easily my favorite cars) and True Blood's resident lawyer Courtney Ford, who is as amazing an actress as she is beautiful.
The case - as entertaining as it may have been - was far-fetched though. I really doubt a local police department, like the NYPD, would actually investigate a known terrorist who is on most of the world agencies' lists. I know Mac plays the hero and all, but in real life, at the least a unit chief would contact the FBI. But, seeing how this is a show that doesn't have much to do with reality, let's move on and call it television.
I liked the idea of the family of car thieves though, as well as the Nicole's decision to do anything in her power to save her family. Clearly, not as much as I loved the cars, which is mostly what made me pay attention to the episode at all.
But there were a lot of annoying moments as well, starting with Jo's continuous flirting with Mac and her apparent ability to do everything from talking about sports to fixing race cars (I have nothing against women who do that, I myself am a big sports buff, even more than most men I know, but how would she know so much about elite cars like Ferraris is beyond my understanding), to Mac discovering the cause of death when Sid couldn't (is this guy really all that skilled in each and every aspect of his lab, even more so than someone who specializes in that?), to the almost lack of air time for Lindsay and Flack. I won't even get into Danny's new shtick, he's just such a douche this season!
The only fun moment of the episode was the fighting demonstration that Hawkes and Adam gave.
Keep it this way, CSI:NY, and this will be your last season!CSI: NY 8x02: Keep It Real Back to Season 8
