My gosh how I’ve loved you!
Beautiful, exalted, noble,
I loved you all my life,
With a flame burning pure;
My gosh how I’ve loved you,
Like a shining city on a hill,
Of truth, reason, and justice,
Striving for the good,
A model for the world.
My gosh how I loved you!
And all that you’ve betrayed,
Forsaken for a grotesque gigolo,
A monster of depravity,
Embraced not in spite of it,
But because of it.
Thumbing your nose at me,
Mocking all my idealization
Of your sterling virtues,
Thrown now in the toilet.
Like so much excrement,
You’ve stuffed in my mouth.
My lady in the harbor
Drops her torch,
To hold her face in her hands,
Disconsolately weeping.
While fools, knaves, and liars
Prance in triumph,
Cocks of the walk,
Swaggering heralds
Of some new perverted glory,
Reveling in degradation and despoliation,
Dancing crazed and shrieking
Around bonfires of decency and reason.
My gosh I loved you so!
You goddamned fucking ho!
