1 Ounce of Brown Sugar

20 drops of Crème Brulee Flavoring

Creme Brulee Lip Scrub Recipe: Melting the Lip Balm Base and the White Chocolate Wafers

Initially, you will need to find a scale that will measure in ounces. Be sure the units are set to the ounce measurement. Now, you will need a microwave safe bowl.  Then, use your scale to weigh out 4 ounces of Natures Garden’s all natural lip balm base. Next, you are going to melt the lip balm base. You can use a microwave for a minute or so to melt the lip balm base, but make sure that your lip balm base doesn’t get overheated. Remove the bowl from the microwave after a minute has passed and stir the lip balm base to determine whether it is entirely melted or needs to be microwaved longer. You shouldn’t do intervals much longer than a minute. Doing so could cause the base to overheat.

Second, you will need to prepare the addition of the white chocolate wafers. Add 5 of your white chocolate wafers to a different microwave safe bowl. You will want to melt the chocolate in the microwave, but the chocolate will not need to be heated for very long. It should only take about thirty seconds for the wafers to melt. It is important that the chocolate is not burnt to preserve the taste for the lip scrub. So, if you need to microwave the chocolate longer make sure you are watching it carefully.

Creme Brulee Lip Scrub Recipe: Combine Base Ingredients

Now, you are going to combine the lip balm base, white chocolate, and Crème Brulee Flavoring into the bowl with the lip balm base. Once the white chocolate wafers and lip balm base are both melted, you can add the white chocolate to the liquid lip balm base. Next, using a pipette, add 20 drops of Creme Brulee flavor oil into the bowl of melted base. Quickly and thoroughly mix these ingredients together.

Creme Brulee Lip Scrub Recipe: Separate the Top Layer From Base Mixture

Next, you will separate a portion of the base for later use. Since you will need to create a top layer for your crème brulee lip scrub, some of the lip balm base mixture needs to be separated out. So, grab the scale from before and make sure the units remain on ounces. Take your bowl containing the melted base. Weigh out 1 ounce of this mixture into a separate microwave safe bowl. This 1 ounce of lip balm base will be used as the top layer in a later step, but you can set it aside for now.

Creme Brulee Lip Scrub Recipe: Pouring the Bottom Lip Balm Layer

You will create the bottom layer of the lip scrub in this step. Your bottom layer will be creme brulee flavored lip balm.  Take your ten 10 ml. clear jars and line them up. You will need to pour the remaining 3 ounces of base lip balm mixture carefully to create a clean bottom layer in the jars. So, try to limit the lip balm getting on the sides of your jars as much as humanly possible. The jars should be filled with this base layer to just under two thirds of the way to the rim of the lip balm jar. This should leave you with about a third left to include the top layer. It is not extremely important whether you get this proportion perfectly accurate, but make sure you will have enough room for a thinner top layer to be added on in a later step.

While it is easier to just avoid getting the lip balm base on the sides of the jar to begin with, we all know that accidents can happen. Luckily, these splashes and misses that cling to the lip balm pot can be cleaned up. Simply take a toothpick and carefully remove excess white lip balm that is above the level of the layer. This will prevent streaks of white from being visible after the top layer is added. Be careful not to poke the toothpick into the layer around the edges, as this will be seen later through the clear jar.

Creme Brulee Lip Scrub Recipe: Creating the Top Layer

Next, you are going to create the top layer. At this point, it is likely that the mixture you set aside for the top layer has hardened. While you will need to re-melt this portion of the base, this step will be quick and it is important that the base layer is set up before you begin. So, you may want to wait a minute before starting this step. However, use your own discretion. If the bottom layer looks like it is already set up, then there is no need to delay.

Next, retrieve the 1 ounce of the lip balm base mixture you previously set aside. Your top layer cannot be reheated once the sugar is added. The sugar has the potential to melt or burn, which would ruin the lip scrub. Now, you can reheat this mixture in the microwave in thirty second increments. Weigh out 1 ounce of your brown sugar, add it to the base and stir. These combined ingredients will begin to make the mixture feel thick, don’t panic you still have some time. Take a spoon and scoop the top layer into the 10 ml. jars. We suggest scooping slightly more than you need, pushing down lightly to push the layers together, and smoothing the excess off the top. Once you have filled the jars, feel free to smooth out the tops. Finally, your lip scrubs are complete!
