Shamees Aden, a designer in London has created a unique pair of trainers by 3D printing the shoes using synthetic biological cells. He claims the material he used to create the shoes can actually repair any damage on the surface of the shoes by itself. Sounds pretty amazing, right? Well, don’t get over-exited because it looks horrible.
According to Dezeen, “Shamees Aden’s Protocells trainer would be 3D-printed to the exact size of the user’s foot from a material that would fit like a second skin. It would react to pressure and movement created when running, puffing up to provide extra cushioning where required.”

Self-repairing or not, I bet these trainers would smell like a pickled jar after a run, as its’ made with living organisms. Not only that, the designer says that you have to keep these shoes in a jar filled with protocell liquid all the time to keep the shoes from losing all its’ energy. So, don’t expect to see these things out in the open anytime soon. Thank god for that.
