Creativity 521 #2 - Life is a Box of Chocolates

By A Happy Mum @A_Happy_Mum
You have probably heard of the famous quote from the movie Forrest Gump.
Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.
 It's quite true, isn't it?
Yes, you do know if you reach inside the box, you will get a piece of chocolate. But you don't know what filling it contains and you don't know whether you will like it. It's just like in life, sometimes things happen the way you like it, but other times it throws you a curve ball and gives you the most unexpected surprises.

That said, since chocolates are so much like life, it becomes a natural choice as a gift.
Not everyone may be a chocolate lover, but no one minds a little chocolate, right? Kids dig into them, adults like them and even the elderly still eat them with their mouth falsies.
How many of us have bought chocolates as souvenirs from overseas holidays, as a present for our niece/nephew or as a Valentine's Day gift for our loved ones?
I have and I still do.
However, I like to add a personal touch to my gifts so that the receiver can feel a tad more sincerity and love within rather than seeing a box of chocolates bought straight from the shop or commercially wrapped ones.
So today, I'm sharing with you a very simple way to beautify chocolate gifts so that they become one of a kind in the world.
What you need:
1) Scrapbooking paper
2) Ribbons
3) Embellishments like paper flowers/doilies/beads/brads
4) Glitter glue
5) Scissors
6) Glue tape
7) Stamp pad
8) Boxes of chocolates
It's all about creativity so you can make use of other embellishments like buttons, wires, letterings, stamps or any other decorative items you have on hand.

Firstly, cut away any extra flaps from the sides of the box.
Cut out pieces of scrapbooking paper to fit the sides of the box neatly. You can place the box onto the paper and trace out the sizes to be exact.
This is something I love to do. Hold onto a stamp pad and gently smudge the sides of the papers to create a more vintage feel.
Using the glue tape or double sided tape, stick the papers onto each side of the box.
Add on embellishments to achieve your desired final look. You can decorate not just the front, but the sides of the box too.
For me, I did two really simple designs using doilies, ribbons, paper flowers, pearl stickers, 3D butterfly stickers as well as some glitter. Guess what? They took me less than half an hour.

So, how do you like these chocolates now?
Well, they sure won't make the chocolates more yummy but they might help to bring a smile. I'm giving these to my knitting teacher. She's over 70, loves to sew and knit, and has a sweet tooth.
A combination of craft and chocolates, I bet she's gonna love them.
The next time you give away a box of chocolates, why not try your hand at this and make your gift a truly unique one?
