The deaths follow the exponential increase in contaminations observed since the beginning of June, given the time between infection, hospitalization and death. The Florida Department of Health specifies that 156 people have died in recent days or weeks, but the deaths have only been confirmed in recent 24 hours.
The previous record for the death toll was set on Tuesday.
14 000 0 new cases were also reported Thursday, almost a record. The number of hospitalizations has increased by almost 434 patients in 24 hours.
Florida is the United States which detects the most new cases every day, ahead of California and Texas, whose daily reports are close to 07 00 0 cases. More than 315 000 0 residents of Florida have been infected to date.
The governor, Ron DeSantis, almost closed the bars at the end of June (ban on the sale of alcohol), but did not order to new confinement and, unlike his counterparts in Texas and California, he refused to order the wearing of a mask in confined spaces.
It is in Florida that President Donald Trump will be invested in August by the Republican Party for the presidential election on November 3.
The governor also asked Florida schools to reopen fully in August, even in the most active epidemic outbreaks, a decision that opposes number of local education officials.
