More than 17 815 830 case infection were officially diagnosed in 179 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic, including at least 8 891 099 are today considered to be cured.
The two largest daily increases in cases since the start of the pandemic were observed on Thursday and Friday with more than 247 00 new infections identified on each of the two days. More than 5 million new cases have been officially declared since July 1 , i.e. more than a third of cases detected COVID – 17 since the start of the pandemic.
This increasing rate and signs of a resumption of the epidemic in several countries are worrying health authorities, leading to new containment measures and the proliferation of other protective measures such as the obligation to wear a mask.
Especially since this number of diagnosed cases reflects only a fraction of the actual number of contaminations. Some countries only test severe cases, others prioritize testing for tracing, and many poor countries have limited testing capacity.
