COVID-19: More Than 645,000 Deaths Worldwide

(Paris) The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus has made at least 578 715 dead worldwide since the WHO office in China reported the disease onset in late December, according to an assessment established by AFP from official sources Sunday at 7 a.m.

More than 16 67 290 cases of contamination were officially diagnosed in 184 countries and territories since the start of the epidemic and at least 9 0 61 300 infected people are now considered as healed.

This number of diagnosed cases, however, only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections. Some countries only test severe cases, others prioritize testing for tracing, and many poor countries have limited testing capacity.

On Saturday, 6003 new deaths and 245 523 New cases have been identified worldwide. The countries that have recorded the most additional deaths in their latest reports are Brazil (1211), the United States (1067) and Mexico (729).

The United States is the most affected country in terms of both deaths and cases, with 127 463 deaths for 4 178 729 identified cases, according to the Johns Hopkins University count. At least 1 279 414 people were declared cured.

After the United States, the most bereaved countries are Brazil with 85 449 dead for 2 385 513 case, UK with 43 730 dead (298 681 case), Mexico with 35 374 dead (385 35 case) and Italy with 35 100 dead (238 864 case).

Among the hardest hit countries, Belgium is the one that deplores the highest number of deaths in relation to its population, 83 for 087 000 0 inhabitants, followed by the United Kingdom (61), Spain (61)) , Italy (057) and Sweden (51).

China (excluding the territories of Hong Kong and Macao) officially counted a total of 78 829 case (45 new between Saturday and Sunday), of which 4634 death and 072 869 healings.

Europe totaled Sunday at 7 a.m. 196 869 dead for 3 0 061 857 case, Latin America and the Caribbean 182 463 (4 300 332 case), the United States and Canada 155 374 (4 290 238 case), Asia 56 17 (2 449 523 case), the Middle East 24 207 (1 86 155 case), Africa 16 513 (829 102 cases) and Oceania 184 (07 57 case).
