The country, which has been facing a major resurgence of the epidemic since the end of June, precisely deplored 2060 deaths in one day, as well as more than 58 00 0 new cases detected. The last time the United States recorded more than 2000 dead in 20 hours dated back to May 7.

In total, the United States has nearly 160 00 0 deaths since the start of the pandemic, and more than 4, 70 million cases (including a third of people declared cured).

The contagion figures started to rise sharply from the end of June in the country, which recorded up to more than 58 000 0 new cases diagnosed per day mid-July.

The death curve has also risen, regularly exceeding the 1000 deaths for two weeks. However, the number of deaths had not skyrocketed so far, as some experts feared.

At the height of the containment measures, between early April and early May, the number of daily deaths regularly exceeded 2000 deaths, even going as high as more of 3000 end of April.

The United States is by far the country most affected by the pandemic in absolute terms, both in terms of deaths and cases, followed by Brazil.
