A Constable of Thalawa Police was admitted to the Anuradhapura hospital with serious injuries after severing his finger trying to intervene to stop a drunken man who was eyeing to stab his wife.
An officer from a group of officers of Thalawa police faced this incident while they went to investigate regarding a complaint made by a woman to the 119 Police Emergency Call Centre stating that husband is assaulting her and destroying house properties last Wednesday (31). Four police officers went to the house of the woman in Thalawa, Idigaspathana and even then, the drunken husband had been damaging house property and behaving violently. Police said the suspect was a 40 year old who served in the army and retired.
He had stabbed a person when the police got there, and police took action to admit the injured man to the hospital.
The husband was arrested along with the manna knife by the police, Thalawa Police said.
