Shami Kebab
It provides a platform to food enthusiasts, who love cooking, to open their kitchen for strangers. So we landed at Rohit’s house in Jangpura for lunch. We were graciously welcomed by Rohit and his wife into their beautiful home. After the formal introduction, the conversation started to flow about the common ground – FOOD.
And another flavor got added into the conversation with a drink, it was mutton shami kebab. The kebabs were served with onions and mint chutney. The kebabs were looking crisp and smelling great. We had a bite and it melted in mouth. The dal inside was not completely smashed but still kebab’s were soft like galauti. Generally the Chana dal is used for shami kebabs, but these kebabs were made using Arhar (Toor) dal. The accompaniments – mint chutney was good with flavor of mint standing out.
Lehsun ka thecha
The kebabs were among the best we had tried elsewhere. Once the starters were over, the discussion moved on to the dining table and we were served the main course – Dal Gosht, Rice & Lehsun ka Thecha. From the look of it, it was looking extremely beautiful. The first bite of dal gosht and we could make out the flavor of dal standing out in the jugglery of meat and spices. Meat was cooked very well and was soft. The rice was made in differently – it was cooked and then steamed.The amazing Lehsun ka Thecha was spicy, adding distinct flavor to the whole meal. Thecha is a Maharashtrian style of chutney which is spicy and feels more like achaar (pickle). The dessert was Double ka Meetha. It was not very sweet, like the regular Hyderabadi style, full of dry fruits and melted in our mouth. So the entire experience of having food in a stranger’s house with intelligent conversation turned out to be excellent.
