During the hearing on Monday, MQM lawyer Farogh Naseem had tendered the unconditional apology on behalf of Altaf Hussain in which the MQM chief said he respects the judiciary and want to withdraw his remarks he made against the court during the telephonic address to the party workers from London last year.
Terming Altaf Hussain’s speech as contemptuous, the apex court had issued a contempt of court notice to the 59-year-old leader last month and had directed him to appear before court on January 7 to justify his remarks.
MQM’s deputy convener Dr Farooq Sattar thanked the court and judges for accepting apology and discharging contempt case against their leader saying their party believes in rule of law and respect for the judiciary.
