A weathered Consolidated PBY Catalina on display at the Museo del Aire outside of Madrid. This PBY wears the Spanish Air Force markings of a former US Navy PBY that, in 1943, landed by mistake in Spanish territory and was interned. In 1944 the aircraft was purchased from the United States for an amount of $100,000 and eventually placed into military service in 1951. This one-and-only Spanish Air Force PBY was damaged in an accident in 1954 and subsequently scrapped. The Museum acquired this PBY in 1996 and restored to commemorate the earlier PBY used by Spain.
