Conner Youngblood is a very special artist. Hailing from Texas, this Yale
student has enact for mixing and matching various genres. “I like
to mix organic and electric sounds together, create beats with
acoustic instruments; I just love to mix things up.” Describes
Conner. “Everyone these days says they listen to everything, so I
thought –why can’t I just make music with the same sort of
attitude?” A wonderful outlook on how a changing market changes an
artist sound. In terms of lyrics
Conner touches many areas of his
personal life “I base most of my lyrics off of personal happenings
in my life... I like keeping personal lyrics open for
interpretation.”

Being
a full time student does drain a lot of your time and for
Conner it
is no different. “I’ve been in school throughout my entire music
career, I’ve never really been able to focus 100% of my time and
attention to music. So the result has been recording a song here and
there, just whenever I could get the chance... are all pretty
disconnected from each other in time and style.” Disconnected yes,
impressive hell yes.
Conner blends and matures with each new release
as his songs becomes richer and develop. He is filling a niche area
by delving into many genres but not committing to one in particular.
Conner
Youngblood has recently release
Sketches pt. 1 and plans to release
part 2 soon enough. “As of now I got
Sketches pt.2 on the way, and
then hopefully a third by the end of the summer.” Hopefully this
will hold us down as he does not plan to release an album anytime
soon. He is set to play as
SXSW this year, so definitely give him a
shout.
He
leaves us with some advice and insight as to how he got to where he
is today.
For
me it was just about finding the right style of songs to sing. I
thought I had a terrible voice whenever I tried to sing the stuff on
the radio, but then when I would sing along to people like Elliott
Smith and Nick Drake I felt comfortable and thought I sounded just
fine. So its all about writing songs that suite your voice.
Check out the post on his song
Australia. I have also added the song
Slow Down. You really do get a sense of his musical range on this one. Happy Listening.
