Congress Should Look In The Mirror

The Republicans in Congress want you to believe that refusing to raise the debt ceiling will somehow save this nation some money. They are LYING! Raising the debt ceiling just allows the government to pay for the spending that Congress (not the president) authorized. There is much fat that needs to be cut from this government, but it has nothing to do with Social Security, Medicare, Education, Food Stamps, Welfare, or Unemployment Insurance. Those things are badly needed by hurting Americans and to keep the economy going. The cuts that are needed are in the subsidies to giant corporations, and in the bloated defense budget -- and those cuts should be accompanied by more taxes on the rich and the corporations.
That's what needs to happen, but that's not what the Republicans want to do. They want to play games with the debt ceiling to try and force budget cuts that help hurting Americans -- so they can give more to the rich and the corporations. They want to do the exact opposite of what needs to be done -- and if they are allowed to get away with it, they will seriously damage this country and its economy. They must be stopped.
