Concrete Concrete – ‘Hues’

concrete concrete are a new band from Brooklyn who have already played shows with Alex Cameron and Cavemen. They have a debut album ‘Drifter’ (produced by toe’s Mino Takaaki) ready to wow the math rock community and ‘Hues’ offers a fine introduction to the three-piece’s intelligently crafted sound.

Opening with stop-start and zig-zag patterns of melody and plenty of big bass, the band throw in odd time signatures and lilting, gentle vocals as the song takes you on a 5-and-a-half-minute journey – dipping into jazz at the most unexpected times. The TTNG-style guitar work gets ever more rapid as the song heads towards its climax full of intense drumming.
