Color Snapshot: Sherwin-Williams Exclusive Plum

By Simone Design Blog @HomeSpire

Even though it’s still winter, I know that many of you are thinking about and updating your home for spring. For those of you thinking about what colors to use, you may be interested to know that the paint manufacturing company Sherwin Williams has announced Exclusive Plum as their 2014 color of the year. I must say I really love it–this color conjures visions of royalty, sophistication, elegance, and serenity.

According to Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing, “This dusky, filtered violet is refined without being stuffy, elegant yet easy, and layered with romantic potential.”

Sherwin-Williams describes Exclusive Plum as a blend of cool blue and feisty red with a splash of gray–a hue that will very easily complement your existing design style. It’s been seen in textile and fashion designs. It’s very chic and stylish looks great on a single wall, a room, or an accessory. The color has “luxurious” written all over it.

Sherwin-Williams suggests that you pair Exclusive Plum with one of these lovely colors:

Let me show you a collection of images that highlight complementing colors. Exclusive Plum can be layered with gold, gray and white for an elegant, dreamy space.

You can pair Exclusive Plum with accents of copper and well-worn leather.

Pops of magenta and chartreuse can liven up Exclusive Plum to create a more energetic space. When paired with creamy whites or other neutrals, the mellow yet purposeful purple can turn any space into a refreshing retreat. The natural lighting in this room gives lightens the plum color, making it appear soft and very inviting. You just want to touch it!

Besides choosing Exclusive Plum as color of the year, Sherwin-Williams also released their Color Forecast for 2014, a combination of 38 new colors grouped into 4 color palettes: Reasoned, Diaphanous, Intrinsic, and Curiosity. Exclusive Plum is in the Curiosity palette. Says Jordan, “The Curiosity palette is mad science meeting fantasy; it’s avant-garde, experiential, dark and exotic.”

In my home, Sherwin-Williams is our go-to paint company. Over the past few weeks, my husband has been using their paints on our new interior doors and my office walls.
