CoCo Chanel: National Handbag Day

By Firstladyb

Saturday, Oct. 10th is National Handbag Day and even though there are a lot of brands I love, Chanel bags have always done it for me.

Since I can remember I've been intrigued by the French Fashion House of Chanel.

She defied convention and defined the modern woman.

For those of you who may not know, Chanel was founded by seamstress and businesswoman CoCo Chanel (whose real name was Gabrielle Chanel). She was born into poverty and after he mother's death, her father sent her and her sisters to live in an orphanage. This is where she learned to sew, according to a documentary I watched titled "CoCo Before Chanel."

The Neiman Marcus Fashion Award recipient extended her influence beyond couture clothing, realizing her design aesthetic in jewelry, handbags, and fragrances. The iconic interlocked-CC monogram that we see on the front of her handbags she designed herself, and has been used since the 1920s.
