from Clean Skies Campaign
From Montana and Wyoming to the West Coast, dozens of communities are impacted by proposals to bring more dirty, polluting coal trains through our towns. Fortunately, people up and down the rail line are organizing to protect our communities from coal exports, and this summer we’re catalyzing this movement in new and bolder ways.
On August 16 (a Saturday), Please join Blue Skies Campaign, Indian People’s Action, Wild Idaho Rising Tide, and other groups for this day of nonviolent actions. Check below to find an action near you.
Missoula, MT: Citizen groups will hold an all-day People’s Closure of the Coal Train Tracks, during which we will peacefully and safely attempt to prevent any trains carrying coal from passing through Missoula over a 12-hour period. From 11:00am – 12:00pm we will hold a rally at the Madison Street junction with the railroad tracks, in support of the People’s Closure. Email blueskiescampaign@gmail.com to get involved.
Sandpoint, ID: Converge with WIRT and allied activists from across northern Idaho for a march and protest in downtown Sandpoint, beginning at Farmin Park, between North Third and Fourth Avenues and Main and Oak Streets, at 12:00pm. Please bring your family and friends, coal train protest signs, banners, and props, musical instruments, voices, and chants, but especially your spirit of King Coal resistance and solidarity with the thousands of frontline communities who live along railroad sacrifice zones. Carpools from the Palouse region depart the WIRT Activists House in Moscow (call 208-301-8039 for the address) at 9:30 am and return by 5 pm.
