Before Canadian Music Week 2016 wrapped we hit the Aussie BBQ at The Horseshoe and hung out with the boys from The Dead Love.
With the sun out we sat on the patio out front on Queen Street West to talk about the band, new music, drinks, CMW, Toronto and more - and then we went inside, had some bbq sausage and watched The Dead Love hit the stage to play for friends and fans and industry on day 6 of a busy, busy week of music.
The CMW crowd at the BBQ also gave it up for the boys with a big pop and a quick gathering at the front of the stage to get a closer look and a louder listen to the grungy rock coming at them.
Aside from the crowds, we asked what their favourite things about Toronto had been on the trip, and their short answer was Everything! Their longer answer rambled a little bit, but included the people and food and drinks and girls... and they're hoping to be back for more.
In fact, their new album is scheduled to come out this fall, and after a tour at home in Australia, The Dead Love are hoping to come to Canada to tour and get some ears on their new music. Keep an eye out for those dates, because after seeing them in a 4:15 afternoon slot, we can only imagine what they'd be like on a nighttime stage.
When we were sitting with Stevie and Clint they told us that they didn't come all the way to Canada to suck... mission accomplished.
The last thing we asked the boys, before they headed inside to get ready to play, was what drinks they'd been loving throughout the week, because we'd heard a rumor that they enjoyed a nice cold beverage. We didn't get a consensus answer, but the top 3 were Whiskey, Beer, and Caesers - which we told them to brag about when they got home... you know, because Canada!
The Dead Love were a heap of fun, they played loud and hard with a polished edge, and they made the most of their time in Canada before they headed home to get that new album ready. We can't wait to hear it, and we hope we'll see you all there with us - rocking out!
