My first wedding of 2018 and I was buzzing with excitement.
A new venue to work in, inspiration and opportunity within this new setting. To crown it all I had a great couple to work with – Amber and Nick!
We were still very much within the winter season. Things could certainly be described as fresh! Sandwiched between the Siberian chills of ‘The Beast from the East’, we had avoided the snowfalls but my God it was cold!
I have the greatest respect for any bride who can tolerate extreme cold conditions in the pursuit of photography and to immortalise their day with a few outdoor portraits. However, Amber went way beyond all expectations. Wearing a stunning tasseld dress made by an Australian designer, Amber put in some time out in the field.
A dress that was intended for a sun kissed Australian summer ceremony, and here we were in almost minus degrees in Hampshire!

I was also starting the year with a complete new kit, having changed from the Fuji system over to Sony. It was only my second wedding shooting with the new A7R III’s – the first one being over in India where their low light capabilities weren’t fully put to the test. A good old English winter wedding was just the thing – the perfect testing ground.
Amber and her party were conveniently getting ready in a room at the back of the Clock Barn. It’s all set up as a dressing room and takes any worry away of the bride getting ruffled by the often unkind British weather.
Associate photographer Will was there as a guest, being a friend of the Groom. A few frames of Nick getting ready are all down to him! When a fellow photographer turns up at a wedding with cameras, it’s a shame not to be able to utilise them!

Amber & Nick’s wedding celebration was a sweet day to witness. You could see the deep connection and love they share for one another, being so visible within the glances exchanged through the ceremony. Re-enforced through the speeches shared at the wedding breakfast.
A brother-in-law shared his story of meeting Nick. He was amazed at Nick’s Porche, it was his dream sports car. A few weeks later he heard that Nick had sold the car the following day as it made Amber travel sick…. thats love for you!
It was a great experience for us as a Clock Barn Wedding Photographers, capturing this winter wedding. The couple and their guests were so laid back and easy going, everything flowed so simply. Greatest respect to Amber & Nick for enduring the bitter cold for the outdoor portraits. You acted like pros – smiling your way through from one shot to another.
Congratulations and thank you for asking me to capture your day!
