I have been wondering for a while what is the best way to get rid of old clothes? There are lots of different options available but some require a lot of hard work for not much reward!
I have a loft full of baby clothes that Big Mr A keeps threatening to get rid of but I am struggling to part with them and want to find a way to clear out with the least hassle.
I have tried EBay before without much luck. After having Little Mr A I had a huge cull of my clothes which were never going to fit me again. I spent hours painstakingly uploading them, most often to sell them for a couple of pounds at the most. After they had sold I spent ages packaging them all up then taking a loaded pram down to the Post Office. They must have hated seeing me coming and I used to hate holding up the queue! There really was very little reward for the amount of time it took!
I have tried Car Boot Sales. Again this is a lot of work for not much reward. You have to get up at a ridiculous time in the morning to ensure you get a pitch, then people expect to buy things for a few pence! Standing out in the cold for a couple of hours to make a few quid doesn’t really appeal to me anymore, although a nice warm bacon butty and a cup of tea always helps!
I have tried Facebook selling groups. Again, I find people on these sites mainly want something for nothing. I have been haggled down before only to be let down by the person not turning up to collect the item. Very frustrating and really not worth the hassle.
I have given items to charity. Whilst I am always happy to give the odd bits here and there, I really have too many clothes to just give away for free, although if I do decide to go down this route, we are always having plenty of charity bags posted through the door!
The only thing I haven’t tried is the websites where you can send in your clothes for cash. Much like exchanging your games and DVD’s for cash, now some of these sites are also accepting clothes too. This seems like a much easier way to do things as you are parceling it all up in one go, sending it off to one place and then receiving an agreed sum for them. I think when I finally bare to part with the baby clothes I will seriously consider this idea.
What do you think? How do you get rid of your old clothes?
