Saturday April 11 was the official day of the Juke Joint Festival in Clarksldae, MS. It was our second day on site. Our second day ended like the first, with the best act. On our way home we stopped at a small juke joint, Annie Bell's Lounge, on the outskirts of town to hear an hour of Ricky Burton and the Da Basic Soul Blues Band work their way through Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and more to end with a powerful version of 'A Change is Going to Come.” Then we drove an hour back through the rural Mississippi countryside listening to Ray Charles.
During the day and early evening, we were in downtown Clarksdale hearing a number of blues men and women ranging from 86 year old LC Ulmer to 16 year old Kingfish Ingram, just back from a tour of France.
In between we saw Joyce Diva Jones and the Peckwood Blues Band doing "Spoonfull", Ernest “Guitar” Roy, Roosevelt Roberts, and many more.
We got some nice fried catfish from a street vendor for dinner.
