Clark – The Grit In The Pearl

I’m gently warming to English producer Chris Clark’s latest self-titled release. There are at least a handful of propulsive, dystopian flashes of brilliance that capture the essence of Clark’s increasingly bleak soundscapes. Best of the bunch is the apocalyptic “The Grit In The Pearl”, a track that drives forward with dramatic layers of synths constantly altering momentum – like if Clark’s computers came to life and challenged him in a battle of control – until the whole thing crashes under its own weight. Rarely has the struggle between man and machine sounded this stunning.
