It is already December! Can you believe it? My husband and I got our Christmas tree this weekend and I was super excited to decorate it because of this awesome idea I found on Pinterest, Cinnamon Scented Ornaments! While these bake for a few hours, the ornaments fill your house with the smell of Christmas! Not to mention, when you hang them on your tree they continue to make your house smell like you just baked a boat load of snickerdoodles.
Oh, and did I mention there are two ingredients in this little DIY project? Doesn't get any easier than this people! Don't bother using expensive ingredients on these since you won't be eating them. I got 2 canisters of cinnamon for $2 and already had apple sauce at home. These would also double as adorable gift tags for your presents. If you have any fun cut outs now is the time to use them! I used stars since I was using mine as ornaments, but use your imagination! Just make sure whatever you pick will give you enough room to poke a hole to put string on them.
The Directions I used were super simple so this is a perfect project to do with your kids.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Apple Sauce
- 2 cups Cinnamon
- Pencil or Straw (to make hole for ribbon)
- Cookie cutters
- Ribbon
Directions:Mix together cinnamon and apple sauce until it makes a dough. The dough will be brown in color and be relatively thick like regular cookie dough.Lightly sprinkle a flat surface with cinnamon to prevent dough from sticking. Knead dough until you have a firm, pasty consistency.
Roll out your dough to at least 3/8 inch thickness.Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. With a pencil end, poke a hole near the top of each shape. (Make sure the hole is not too close to the edge, and is large enough to insert a ribbon when dry.)Drying: Bake on baking sheet in 150°F oven for 3-5 hours, or air dry for 2 days. When air-drying, be sure to turn over a few times every day for a more even finish.
Decorate when dry. Add a decorative ribbon for hanging.
