Some major danger warnings are coming out for Christmas Eve that according to both AccuWeather and Weather.com, could affect millions with a record breaking 98.6 million people expected to be traveling over the holidays. Dangerous traveling condition alerts are going out along the entire East coast and parts of the midwest as AccuWeather offers advice for travelers to leave early rather than waiting until Christmas Eve and Weather.com gives a day by day forecast.
Some key points from Accuweath include but are not limited to; • Those with direct or connecting flights to New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit and Chicago should be prepared for disruptions and delays due primarily to wind, but also rain, thunderstorms and in some cases snow; • Travel by ground may be challenging to dangerous at times for motorists, due to poor visibility in rain, urban flooding and wind in some areas, and due to snow, wind and slippery roads in others; • A period of windswept rain will swing northeastward spanning Tuesday night through Wednesday night in the East. The worst of the wind and rain on the front-side of the storm may be from Philadelphia to New England; • Thunderstorms could extend as far north as southern New England and as far south as Florida. Snow during part of the storm is likely in the Upper Midwest. This includes the cities of Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis.
Via Weather.com for those planning to travel on Christmas Eve:
Christmas Eve: Low pressure should be spinning somewhere over the Great Lakes or Ohio Valley, driving a cold front into the East. Wind-driven snow is possible in at least the western Great Lakes, and possibly in parts of the Ohio Valley, Tennessee Valley and Appalachians. A soaking rain, possibly with embedded thunderstorms and strong winds, will sweep into the Northeast, including the I-95 corridor. The rain will likely extend into northern New England and Upstate New York. Rain and thunderstorms, a few storms possibly severe, will extend southward into the Carolinas, eastern Georgia and Florida. Another storm brings mountain snow and valley rain to the Northwest, northern California, Great Basin and northern Rockies. Lowering snow levels may bring some snow to some lower elevations of Washington and Oregon.
Heads up and be safe everyone... more in the video below.
