On Monday a jury found that Katy Perry’s Grammy-nominated song “Dark Horse” copied Christian rapper Flame song “Joyful Noise.”
According to PageSix, the unanimous verdict came five years after Flame and two co-authors of “Joyful Noise” first filed the copyright infringement lawsuit against Perry and other songwriters on the hit single.
Attorneys for the Christian rapper and his co-plaintiffs, Emanuel Lambert and Chike Ojukwu, claimed beats through nearly half of “Dark Horse” was lifted from “Joyful Noise.”
Perry and her legal team argued that she doesn’t listen to Christian rap, but Flame’s team argued back that the singer started her musical career as a Christian artist.
Next, the case will move to the penalty phase, where the jury will decide how much Perry and other defendants owe.
