After the news broke that Jussie Smollett had been the victim of a hate crime, Christian entertainers took to social media to show their support for the Empire star.

DeVon Franklin, Kirk Franklin, Israel Houghton, Sarah Jakes Roberts, E. Dewey Smith and more sent prayers to Smollett and his family.

Praying for my brother Jussie. This is terrible! Homophobia must not be tolerated. Period. RT @TMZ: #BREAKING: 'Empire' Star Jussie Smollett Hospitalized After Possible Homophobic Attackhttps://t.co/jgp35QeruL

Israel Houghton sent a clarion call to the church to speak up and wake up!

“Praying for the Church to wake up, shake off politics & be the Christ followers that we say we are, Houghton posted on Instagram. Speak out against the power that gives voice to polarizing hate & prejudice. It’s the Church’s most powerful moment in time if we’ll be courageous to do the right thing with it. Love God. Love People.”

Kirk Franklin referred to the two white men that attacked Smollett as devils.

“One of God’s children, was brutally attacked by devils that hide behind ideologies that are poisoning this country minute by minute.”

“To hate someone because of their race or sexuality is a shining reflection of who you are,” Tyler Perry shared. No truer words spoken!

“I don’t understand how Evangelicals support this hateful UnGodly President,” Erica Campbell shared on Instagram as she sent prayers and love to Smollett.
