+1ShareTweetPinWhatsApp0 SharesI have attended a few Eid feasts in my life, with families from different regions and they’ve all served the best of regional delicacies! As with most festive feasts, even these ended with a dessert, which is often a milk-based sweet dish like Payasam, Pudding, Sheer Khorma or Phirni. Phirni (or Firni) is a popular North Indian creamy rich dessert, made with milk and rice, and is quite popular on festivals like Diwali, Holi or Eid. What I personally love is the fact that Phirni is traditionally served in clay containers! Today, we make a Chocolate Dates Phirni, a delicious twist on the traditional Phirni, making it more appealing to the little ones and the young at heart!
Chocolate Dates Phirni
Ingredients:
- 1 and 1/2 cup full cream milk, boiled and cooled
- 2 tablespoon basmati rice, rinsed and soaked in water for 15 minutes
- 2 tablespoon Little Moppet Foods Choco Dates Smoothie Mix
- 2 tablespoon Little Moppet Foods Dry Dates Powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped / slivered pistachios
Method:
1. Drain the rice and grind with a little water to get a smooth paste.
2. Pour 1/2 cup of milk in a bowl. Add the rice paste and 2 tablespoons Little Moppet Foods Choco Dates Smoothie powder and mix.
3. Whisk well to ensure there are no lumps. Keep aside.
4. In a sauce pan heat the remaining 1 cup milk on low to medium flame. Add the dry dates powder to it and allow the milk to boil for 2-3 minutes.
5. Now add the rice mix to the milk and keep stirring to ensure the milk does not catch the bottom of the pan.
6. Cook the phirni on a low flame until the rice is completely cooked, and the phirni appears thick and creamy. Keep stirring occasionally.
7. The phirni thickens further on cooling, so switch off the flame accordingly.Garnish the phirni with pistachio slivers and serve in individual clay bowls.
Phirni is generally served chilled, although you can serve it warm too. It’s best to consume the chocolate dates Phirni within a day. If you’re serving it later, be sure to keep it refrigerated until serving time. This dessert is going to be your go-to recipe for a number of reasons. One is that it’s made of completely natural ingredients, with no chemicals at all. The best part – it’s a sugar-free dessert!! Yes, the dry dates adds a natural sweetness to this dish, making this a guilt-free indulgence!
