China to “nationalize” Christianity

Christianity is thriving in China, despite the Communist Party’s oppression, forcing those Christians unwilling to submit to the state’s control and supervision to go underground. Now, the government means to persecute Christians even more with a new campaign to “nationalize” Christianity. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Beginning in 1979, China opened itself to interactions with the West — economic, political, and social/cultural. Almost immediately, U.S. academics began prattling that China inevitably would liberalize its political system, that democratization is in the cards.

It’s now 35 years later.

None of the optimistic predictions came true. Instead, it’s “Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose (The more things change, the more they remain the same).”

Here’s the latest example: The Chinese government means to tighten the noose on Christians and Christian churches by “nationalizing” Christianity, which means Christians in China must serve “Caesar” (the Communist Party) before God.
