Children and Christ

Tomorrow my 9 and 10 year old boys, Nicholas and Isaac, will watch The Passion of The Christ. Before you go on to condemn me for exposing my children to such violence at such a tender age, let’s consider what they will not be watching.

They will not be watching overly sexualized images and context like the garbage that finds it’s way onto our television daily here in the United States. They will not be watching meaningless violence perpetrated on victims, the type that conveys the message ‘you are nothing but a bag of poo who evolved from monkeys and has no reason to be here.’

They will be watching a living vision of God’s love for His human children. They will see and example of man, who could have called a thousand angels down to defend him, but chose the Cross for us! And if you think of angels in the soft, fluffy way most new age gurus portray them, forget it. The angels I’ve had encounters with where more like Maximus from Gladiator!

Will there be violence? Yes, because there really was blood. Liberals love realism except when it comes to Christ and Christians. And let me assure you, believer and non-believer alike, that Mr. Gibson made his movie no where near as bloody as it really was.

Make no mistake about it: Christ paid for us with his blood and his broken body.

Whether you believe in Jesus of Nazareth makes no difference. He broke the bands of death for you. You have the opportunity to live forever, because him.

So before you, new age convert, condemn me and my Savior, maybe you should try actually watching the movie and absorbing it’s message. Are there hypocrites in Christianity? Yes. Are their superficial Christians? Yes. But none of them change what he did for you.

I’ve seen a quote from Christians recently that I really enjoyed: “It’s not religion, it’s a relationship.”

Amen.
