What is Fennel

Oh, let's talk fennel. It may be a vegetable that you're not real familiar with or maybe you are. Fennel belongs to the carrot family. But, it's not considered a root vegetable.

It's got long stalks that grow above ground. These stalks almost look like celery stalks. And, the bulk has these light feathery leaves that kind of look like dill. It's really a pretty plant!

What Does Fennel Taste Like

If you like the taste of a sweet licorice, then you're gonna love fennel. It's perfect cooked or eaten raw.

Fennel for Salad

Fennel is popular for salads. You can chop the leaves/steams very finely for additional flavor because all of the fennel plant is edible. The leaves tend to have more of a slight citrus flavor than the base of the fennel.

Most people prefer to just use the bulb because the stalk can be tough and fiberEEEE.

Cooking Fennel

You cook fennel like any other vegetable, I think. You can prepare it by braising, sautéing, roasting, or grilling it

You can slice it whole into halves. Slice through the middle or the side to make two larger halves. Or if you prefer, you can slice the bulb thinly, kind of like celery stalks and make bite slie pieces.

Chicken with Fennel

Now this dish has a lot of power packed healthiness in it. Fresh fennel bulb is a great source of vitamin C. And, we know that C is a potent antioxidant that helps repair the body. And, vitamin C protects us against cellular damage.

Chicken and Fennel

If you love the aroma and taste of anise, then you're going to love this fennel. Try slicing and adding it to fresh salads. You get that crunch and crisp. Serve with slices of fresh pears or apples, some cheese and bites of the fennel.
