Chicago Bears Miss Playoffs After 10-6 Season; Time to Fire Lovie Smith

After yet another disappointing season by Coach Lovie Smith it is the time to part ways with him.  He has had his share of chances.  His luck and chances have run out.  I’m not really sure why people continue to think he is a good coach.  His knack for wasting time outs and challenges will be his signature moments in his coaching tenure.  I think GM Phil Emery will fire him.

You can’t justify retaining a coach whose team has missed the playoffs 5 of the last 6 seasons.

You can’t justify retaining a coach who doesn’t just make the playoffs but win championships.  Not with this roster.

You can’t justify retaining a coach who only begins to become concerned when his team misses a trip to the playoffs after starting an impressive 7-1.

I don’t really care of the amount of injuries the team accumulated during the season.  Other teams have managed.  Green Bay won it all even after placing 15 players on IR.

Smith isn’t the only one that needs to go.  MLB Brian Urlacher needs to go, especially after his comments in which he stated he really doesn’t care about the fans.  Urlacher isn’t the same player.  The Bears need to draft a replacement.

Other positions they should address:

  • For the love of God, they need to understand that the Offensive Line sucks.  Continue to believe that they will somehow step up in big games and we will continue to waste more seasons.
  • Devin Hester is a punt/kick returnerHe is not a wide receiver.  He may never be one.  You tried to spread his talents to another facet of the game.  What you got was an extremely unproductive, overpaid athlete.  Let him do what he does best.
  • Don’t fool yourself into thinking Kellen Davis is the next Vernon Davis.  He needs to catch the ball first.  It’s perplexing how a team who arguably had the best TE tandem a couple of seasons ago, now has the worst in the league.

Those are the most blaring needs.

I hope the Bears management acts quickly.  This season is indicative of the parity emerging because many teams are getting better.  Teams aren’t waiting for the Bears to get better.  If Christian Ponder (QB for Minnesota Vikings) can throw 3 TDs and 0 INTs against the Packers in a must-win game, then Jay Cutler better as well.  Or else it’s time to move on.  I’m tired of waiting until next year.  If I wanted to follow that mantra I’d just continue watching the Cubs.

What do you think they need to do?
