Chennai Flood Relief - SYMA Continues at Urapakkam 2016

Life is on a fast lane… most of us go to Offices, start early, spend long hours, return late, sometimes carry forward the Office work and tensions, have little time to spend with near and dear.  Don’t blame me for this photo of a wooden bridge and buffaloes happily resting in murky waters – and don’t imagine them to be a dusty village scene.  Taken this morning at Chennai suburb.
May be some of you would have visited this place, probing to buy a good piece of land, which would appreciate thrice or more in another decade or less.  On the GST road, a few kilometres away from Tambaram lies – Urapakkam, officially belonging to Kanchipuram district.   Touted as a fast-growing locality among the southern suburbs on the busy National Highway 45, the place with pincode 603202 has been devoured by real estate agents.  It would be a similar tale be it Urapakkam, Vandalur, Guduvanchery, Singaperumalkoil or more.  Urapakkam is served by the Urapakkam railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network and has two bus stops.  In someways it is gate way to the city. Chennai rains floored many, spared none – levelling many things.  Among the worst affected places is many parts of Urapakkam.  This morning, our team from SYMA [Srinivas Youngmens Association] descended here – in the past fortnight our VP, Mr SR Parthasarathi has made many sorties, assessed the situation and identified the affected people with the help of local Welfare association.  After our dispensation at Chennai High School, Kottur, it was a different experience at Urapakkam, where people narrated their tale of woes – water entry, loss of property, entry of snakes and other creatures in to houses and more melancholy. SYMA team with special mention of Seshadri @ Durai, TJR, Sudarshan and others worked overtime, preparing special relief kits that consisted of 5 kgs of rice; 1 kg of 3 dhall; 1 ltr of Goldwinner oil, many utensils including timber, tamarind, sugar, soap & detergents; dhoties and sarees [costing around Rs.1850 each] ~ today morning we distributed these kits to more than 200 families who queued up and received them without melee. The distribution took place at Senthamizh Salai 2nd Street, Selvaraj Nagar, Urapakkam. Around 80 school bags too were distributed.  SYMA on this occasion, thanks all its donors, well-wishers and volunteers. With regards – S. Sampathkumar
