According to a recent article by Malak Rafla, Nicholas J. Carson and Sandra M. DeJong, it has been brought to the medical professional’s attention that excessive use of technology by teenagers has caused disruptions in their physical and mental health, in sleeping patterns, their weight and levels of exercise and notably in their school work. The authors continue to say that in previous studies long hours spent on mobile devices have shown a positive relationship with an increase in teenagers BMI and a lack of physical activity. Moreover, heavy Internet users seemingly receive lower grades than users who don’t spend an excessive amount of time online, even with a control over age, gender, race, parent education and personal contentment factors that may affect the study.[171] Many teenagers suffer from sleep deprivation as they spend long hours at night on their phones, and this in turn will affect grades as they will be tired and unfocused in school. Social media has generated a phenomenon known as ” Facebook depression”, which is a type of depression that effects adolescents who spend too much of their free time engaging with social media sites. “Facebook depression” leads to problems such as reclusiveness which can negatively damage ones health by creating feelings of loneliness and low self-esteem among young people.[172] At the same time, a recent study entitled “Problematic Social Media Use: Results from a large-scale Nationally Representative Adolescent Sample” (Bányai et al., 2017) has shown that there is a link between social media addiction and negative health effects. In this study which took place in Hungary, 5,961 adolescent students were examined using the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale. 4.5% of these students were found to be “at risk” of social media addiction. Furthermore, this same 4.5%, when examined using the “Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale” and the “Centre of Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale” reported low self-esteem and high levels of depressive symptoms. This study concludes that these scales referred to above should be used in the future in the prevention and intervention of social media addiction in schools.[173]

According to The Washington Post, 38 million boards on Pinterest are dedicated to wedding planning alone. Women are flocking in droves to plan their dream weddings on Pinterest — even if they haven’t met their spouses yet.

There’s a lot of iffy, clicky content. Snapchat’s Discover feature offers a grab-bag of articles, videos, and quizzes from magazine publishers, TV networks, and online sources mostly about pop culture, celebrities, and relationships (a typical headline: “THIS is What Sex Does To Your Brain”).

Another reason WhatsApp spread quickly around the world is that it populates your friends list with phone numbers already on your phone — you can find a contact that works without having to look up a separate email address or username.

To do so, you could spend time coming up with marketing personas and debating the finer points of your mission statement and customer base. These are all well and good. But for a social media marketing plan just getting off the ground, you can make this process a bit easier.

Evgeny Morozov, 2009–2010 Yahoo fellow at Georgetown University, contends that the information uploaded to Twitter may have little relevance to the rest of the people who do not use Twitter. In the article “Iran: Downside to the “Twitter Revolution”” in the magazine Dissent ,[114] he says:

Because large-scale collaborative co-creation is one of the main ways of forming information in the social network, the user generated content is sometimes viewed with skepticism; readers do not trust it as a reliable source of information. Aniket Kittur, Bongowon Suh, and Ed H. Chi took wikis under examination and indicated that, “One possibility is that distrust of wiki content is not due to the inherently mutable nature of the system but instead to the lack of available information for judging trustworthiness.”[105] To be more specific, the authors mention that reasons for distrusting collaborative systems with user-generated content, such as Wikipedia, include a lack of information regarding accuracy of contents, motives and expertise of editors, stability of content, coverage of topics and the absence of sources.[106]

People seriously need to stop acting like snapchat is “meant for sexting”. Like seriously, its not and unless your kid is going to add random people who clearly do that type of thing, snapchat is a perfectly harmless app, so wise up.

Everyone has that one crazy Facebook friend. They overshare, write cryptic statuses or worse, type in all caps. Those seemingly annoying posts, or lack thereof, could be more than just news feed fodder. Facebook profiles could be used as insight into…

e-Commerce: Social media sites are increasingly implementing marketing-friendly strategies, creating platforms that are mutually beneficial for users, businesses, and the networks themselves in the popularity and accessibility of e-commerce, or online purchases. The user who posts her or his comments about a company’s product or service benefits because they are able to share their views with their online friends and acquaintances. The company benefits because it obtains insight (positive or negative) about how their product or service is viewed by consumers. Mobile social media applications such as Amazon.com and Pinterest have started to influence an upward trend in the popularity and accessibility of e-commerce, or online purchases.[25][need quotation to verify]

A final source of social media inspiration is industry leaders. There are giants who do an incredible job of social media marketing, from Red Bull and Taco Bell to KLM Airlines and Tangerine Bank. Companies in every industry imaginable have managed to distinguish themselves through advanced social media strategies. Follow them and learn everything you can. See if they’ve shared any social media advice or insight elsewhere on the web.

2. Facebook. Considered to be synonymous with “social media” by some, Facebook is the one site where you’re likely to find friends, colleagues, and relatives all floating around. Although Facebook is mainly centered around sharing photos, links, and quick thoughts of a personal nature, individuals can also show their support to brands or organizations by becoming fans.

Connecting the dots between marketing and sales is hugely important — according to Aberdeen Group, companies with strong sales and marketing alignment achieve a 20% annual growth rate, compared to a 4% decline in revenue for companies with poor alignment. If you can improve your customer’s’ journey through the buying cycle by using digital technologies, then it’s likely to reflect positively on your business’s bottom line.

Facebook pages are far more detailed than Twitter accounts. They allow a product to provide videos, photos, and longer descriptions, and testimonials as other followers can comment on the product pages for others to see. Facebook can link back to the product’s Twitter page as well as send out event reminders. As of May 2015, 93% of businesses marketers use Facebook to promote their brand.[45] A study from 2011 attributed 84% of “engagement” or clicks to Likes that link back to Facebook advertising.[46] By 2014, Facebook had restricted the content published from businesses’ and brands’ pages. Adjustments in Facebook algorithms have reduced the audience for non-paying business pages (that have at least 500,000 “Likes”) from 16% in 2012 down to 2% in February 2014.[47] [48][49]

Since the goal of social networking is to connect and interact with others, some type of “main” or “home” page on almost every social network is meant specifically for a live feed of updates from friends.

Those two characters are wonderfully played by inevitable acting award nominees Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield–Eisenberg owns the brisk pace of the film while Garfield brings most of the humanity–who anchor a terrific ensemble–SAG best ensemble, perhaps? The film’s score is a perfectly atmospheric concoction of electronica from edgy dark horse best original score nominees Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and it’s all united under the name and vision of David Fincher, who did not win an Oscar for Fight Club or Zodiac or Benjamin Button.

Social media has disrupted quite a few fields, becoming an integral part of many of them, such as journalism or marketing. And professionals in these fields have had to adapt, or, perhaps, perish. But everybody has a different way of using social med…
