Charlaine Harris On Why She’s Ending the Sookie Stackhouse Books

For those of us who love the Southern Vampires Mysteries novels, on which HBO‘s True Blood is based, news that Charlaine Harris was going to bring the series to an end was extremely sad.  Every year in May we wait for the next installment and in 2013 we will get the final one.  Harris is in Australia and New Zealand on her first tour of the area and she sat down with Good Morning to talk about why she’s saying goodbye to the series and her previous comments that Anna Paquin didn’t fit her image of Sookie.

With regards to the books, Harris says that she’s been writing them for over 15 years and she felt it was time for a change:

“I felt that the heart was going out of my effort to write the series and I don’t want to give a book that’s less than heartfelt.”

Charlaine has said several times that Anna Paquin didn’t fit the mental picture she had of Sookie in her own mind, but now says she can’t picture anyone else in the role.  She says that with the character she had built in her head, no actress would have been able to bring that to life in quite the same way.
