With the Sookie Stackhouse series wrapped up, author Charlaine Harris is looking towards her next project. Cemetery Girl is a 3 series graphic novel we first started talking about back in 2011. We haven’t heard much about Harris’ first foray into the graphic novel world co-written with Christopher Golden until now. Amazon.com now has the first book in the series, The Pretenders up for pre-order!

The Pretenders slated for a January 7th, 2014 release date in hardcover and Kindle editions. Don Kramer serves as the illustrator for the book which will be 128 pages long and published by Inklit. The plot summary reveals a girl who can see spirits and after she witnesses a murder, she must decide whether to continue hiding from the world or seek justice for the victim:

She calls herself Calexa Rose Dunhill—names taken from the grim surroundings where she awoke, bruised and bloody, with no memory of who she is, how she got there, or who left her for dead.

She has made the cemetery her home, living in a crypt and avoiding human contact. But Calexa can’t hide from the dead—and because she can see spirits, they can’t hide from her.

Then one night, Calexa spies a group of teenagers vandalizing a grave—and watches in horror as they commit murder. As the victim’s spirit rises from her body, it flows into Calexa, overwhelming her mind with visions and memories not her own.

Now Calexa must make a decision: continue to hide to protect herself—or come forward to bring justice to the sad spirit who has reached out to her for help…
