CFP: Philosophy of Physics at the DPG, Bremen, 13-17 March 2017

By Wuthrich

The Working Group “Philosophy of Physics” (AGPhil) of the German Physical Society (DPG) invites submissions for its annual workshop. Contributions on any topic in the philosophy of physics are welcome. The conference takes place at the University of Bremen from March 13 to 17, 2016, and will be part of the Annual Meeting of the DPG (http://bremen17.dpg-tagungen.de/index.html?set_language=en&cl=en).

The AGPhil organizes a symposium “Epistemology of Big Data in Physics” on March 16-17. We plan an interdisciplinary exchange between philosophers and scientists working in areas of physics where large data sets arise, e.g. at CERN or in climate science. Confirmed speakers are thus far: Claus Beisbart (Bern), David Bresch (Zurich), Koray Karaca (Twente), Balázs Kégl (Paris), Johannes Lenhard (Bielefeld), and Wolfgang Pietsch (Munich). Contributions in this area are especially appreciated.

The AGPhil also hosts a joint symposium on “Cosmic Censorship” with the DPG sections for gravitation and relativity, for theoretical and mathematical physics and the astronomical society (March 13). Invited speaker on behalf of the AGPhil is Eric Curiel (Munich).

If you would like to present a paper, please submit an abstract of about 200 words by 8 January, 2016, using the online-form at https://www.dpg-tagung.de/hb17/submission.html?language=en

We look forward to seeing you in Bremen!

Meinard Kuhlmann, Wolfgang Pietsch
