Everything you need to celebrate Burns Night at home

You don't need to go out to celebrate Burns Night, you can also do so in the comfort of your own house, so here are some ideas for a successful Burns Night at home.

First, you'll need a playlist. A special Burns inspired playlist has been released by Warner Music Group (WMG) and VisitScotland to celebrate Scottish music and provide the perfect soundtrack to any Burns Night party.

The new playlist initially titled VisitScotland Presents: Burns Night Party, is available now with Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit, Paolo Nutini, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Proclaimers, and Ultravox.

Burns Night Food

Have it traditional or with a modern twist, Haggis is extremely versatile. McIntosh Foods have a range of ready meals which you can cook in the oven or microwave. So quick and easy.

If you fancy something a little different then how about this Haggis, Neeps and Tatties Pancake recipe from Foodie Quine.

Or how about this Vegan Haggis Burger from the Tinned Tomatoes blog?

I'll be trying some of these This week!

Failing that you could always have a Haggis Pie!

If you fancy the whole experience, then our buddies at McCaskies have a pack for Burns Night at home. The pack has traditional Ayrshire bacon, Haggis Ball, Chieftain Haggis, 3 Arran Cheeses and mini Arran oatcakes. Enough to keep a bundle fed on the night.

Whisky

The choice of dram for your Burns night supper is a serious affair, so we have a post here with 5 whiskies for Burns Night.

So now you have the food, the music and the whisky sorted what else to do? Find out how to run a proper Burns Supper.

Burns Night Celebrations and Suppers

To start - everyone gathers, the host says a few words, everyone sits and the Selkirk Grace is said.

Some Folk hae meat that canna eat, And some can eat that want it; But we hae meat, and we can eat, So let the Lord be Thanket!

The meal - the starter is served, the haggis is piped in, the host performs Address to a Haggis, everyone toasts the haggis and the main meal is served, followed by dessert.

Address to a Haggis

After the meal - the first Burns recital is performed, the Immortal Memory (the main tribute speech to Burns) is given, the second Burns recital is performed, and then there's a Toast to the Lassies, followed by a Reply to the Toast to the Lassies, before the final Burns recital is performed.

To end the night - the host gives a vote of thanks, everyone stands and sings Auld Lang Syne, crossing their arms and joining hands at the line 'And there's a hand, my trusty fere!'.
