It's the start of the Chinese New Year today (Friday 16th February) and so we end a busy week (Valentine's Day, Pancake Day) with more fun!

Chinese New Year takes place on a different date each year because it is based on the lunar calendar. The date can fall between January 21 and February 20.

Which animal represents 2018?

2018 is the Year of the Dog. The Chinese zodiac moves in a 12-year cycle, and those born in 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, and 2018 are also known as Dogs. 5 ways to celebrate Chinese New Year

1. Eat noodles Celebrate longevity in life with a meal with noodles.

2. Decorate your home with red and gold. Red signifies good luck and energy. Gold is wealth and happiness.

3. Eat some fish. Fish is a lucky food. Serving a whole fish - head and tail - shows you are rich and also symbolises happy beginnings and endings.

4. Set off some firecrackers. Firecrackers are traditionally wrapped in red paper so some good luck there. The exploding crackers will scare away any evil spirits around your home.

5. Give red envelopes with money to bring luck and fortune to family.
