CD Review: Los and the Deadlines – Perfect Holiday EP

Posted on the 23 July 2015 by Tomatrax @TomatraxAU

This is EP number three from London based hard core rockers Los and the Deadlines. On offer are 5 hard, fast, and confronting heavy rock tunes. This is garage rock in the true sense. There is no polishing off or slick production of the sounds, instead they make things as rough as they can allowing for all the energy and character to be fully on show!

‘Feel at ease’ is a raw hard core tune reminiscent of early Rollins Band. The music is rough and ready with a gritty soundscape. This is complemented by the sharp tongued spoken-word style narrative.

‘It could be so much better’ sounds somewhere between Aerosmith and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. There is a great rocking vibe rattling along complemented by a funky vocals. The song has a great energetic groove that gets you hooked before then taking off on an epic psychedelic power journey with all manner of weird and amazing sounds. ‘The youth options’ gives a harsh social commentary on the joys of looking for a job and the requirements once you succeed. Summing up the processes with great irony and satire, and delivered in true punk rock style this song certainly deserves to be an anthem for any hopeful graduates! ‘Batshit crazy’ is an offbeat heavy rock song with a subtle Mr Bungle feel to it. The album opens with the heaviest and loudest track on offer in the form of ‘We lust to shop for nothing’. In a no holds bar fashion the band completely unleash their harsh energy with a massive industrial style finish!

This is exactly how hard core punk rock should sound! Raw and unpolished, the band paint the grim and gritty atmosphere with no sugar coating!
