Shawn Carroll, Earth First!er and Cascadian Forest Defender

This week, on Dec 17, 2012, a Cascadian activist, Shawn Carroll, lost his life while trying to cross the West Fork Illinois River to his home near the community of O’Brien.

Carroll’s death is a tragedy for the Earth First! community which he was an intimate part of as a frequently seen face around Rendezvous camp fires and canopy occupations across the Northwest. A quick search of his name leads one to the epic story of the 2009 Elliott State Forest blockade, where he was among 27 arrested for defending native habitat from industrial logging.

The Earth First! Journal sends our condolences to his family and friends. To read or share stories about Shawn, visit ShawnMemorial.org.

You will be missed Shawn.
