Carefully Sliced Paper Portraits

By Creativevisualart @creativevisart

Tokyo-based artist Risa Fukui meticulously cuts sheets of paper that reveal detailed portraits. Entitled Life-Sized, Fukui has produced a collection of ten new large-scale works mounted on translucent panels. Fukui developed each piece with swirling, haphazard lines that overlap in what look like hand-drawn doodles. Up close, each piece is a messy pattern, but from a distance, the chaos reveals an orderly structure of facial features that emerge from each portrait. When you look at the portraits from behind, they are colorful while, from the front, they are beautiful all-white, floating shapes. Life-Sized is currently on display at the Pola Museum Annex in Tokyo until September, 8, 2013.
