Caravans

24” x 36” oil on canvas

Most artists love to expound upon the fact that they go into a zone or hypnotic state of ecstasy when they are creating a painting. And I suspect there is truth to support those emotions. But sometimes, and especially for me I approach my art without any preconceived notions, but admittedly I do have dreams that suggest or reveal what I should be laying down with paint onto the canvas. But as the years go by and the more I paint, I’ve discovered that more often than not, it’s the thinking that goes on, not necessarily even related to the work at hand. Thoughts enter my mind, some are reminiscences of past experiences and some are thoughts projecting future outcomes. But a good percentage of the thinking that percolates is amazingly profound and interesting. I don’t necessarily have a clue where these ideas and feelings come from, but it could be argued these thoughts are divine interventions. So much more goes into a painting that is never seen. And so much more happens to the artist that is divinely inspired. Ask questions of art. But more importantly ask questions of the artist.
